Deer Resistant Plants
One of the most frequently asked and difficult to answer questions that we hear is which plants are deer resistant? There are several aspects that make this question difficult to answer in absolute terms, including seasonal climate changes, deer population levels and availability of forage in surrounding areas and the simple fact that deer are living creatures that don't always behave as we expect them to.
We try to never speak in absolute terms when assessing which plants will be damaged by grazing deer. As we have seen over the course of the past couple of winters, if there is enough snow cover for a long enough time, deer will eat virtually any plant rather than starve. With that in mind you can click here for a list of plants that we stock and how they are affected by deer.
Alternately, we do offer a once yearly spray service in the fall of a chemical that we have found to be very effective in keeping deer from damaging plants that we are growing in our nursery.
